Welcome to my kind of travel. Travelling with Bettina is not of the usual kind.
Most of us have been to destinations like France, England, spent a year or so in London, Scotland, Tuscany in Italy, Spain, Greece and maybe Turkey… Travelling with Bettina will open your eyes to different parts of the world. Travel to more unknown or disputed places.
In the last 10 years we have been to Pakistan, Namibia and South Africa, Madagascar, Reunion and Mauritius, Eastern Anatolia, Romania, trekking along the far western Great Wall of China, Scandinavia, Iceland plus conducting my own trips to Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Iran, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Mali.
My trips are organised on a very tight budget, using local and traditional accommodation, sometimes home-stays with traditional meals. Hotel accommodation is usually 2- 3 star, (with en-suite bathroom requested!).
We stay where the local tourists stay. We eat the same good food as the locals in the safe restaurants, visit markets and share as much of their lifestyle as possible. We do insist on our own airconditioned transport.
I aim to take 10 to 12 passengers. 15 is the maximum. Smaller groups are fine but naturally a little more expensive per person.
My experience in the less priviledged countries has been thoroughly satisfying. The welcome was endearing, the hospitality and generosity of the people amazing. It is usually the ‘underdogs of the world’ who are the centre of my interest and organised trips. Like the ‘Saxons’ in Romania, the ‘Uighurs’ in Central Asia and China or the ‘Kurds’ in Turkey.
Travel is my life and I wish to share my enthusiasm with YOU.
